Early Sightseeing

We still had a few hours left on the hire car, having picked it up at midday yesterday and needing to return it at the same time today. Mum and Dad decided to relax at the hotel while Marion and I used the car to drive up to Troulaki Monastery. It’s in a similar location to Agios Simeon but slightly further west. Unlike Simeon, you also can’t drive right up to it and instead have to park on the road and hike for 10-15 minutes. It’s not a challenging walk, but my parents didn’t fancy it.

Troulaki Monastery

The monastery itself is smaller than Agios Simeon and not as picturesque. The main attraction is the stunning views down to Kamares:

We spent a few minutes walking around and taking in the views. It had been quite a sweaty walk from the car despite being relatively early in the morning, so we also rested and cooled off in the shade of the building before heading back down.

At the same time, Mum and Dad had walked to the Church of St Catherine in Kamares. It’s situated on the northern side of the bay directly below Troulaki, so we tried to see if we could spot them! We saw a couple of vague shapes moving around, but the distance made it impossible to determine whether it was them or not.

Sunbathing in Kamares

When we’d returned to the hotel and changed into our beach gear, my parents had already reserved our usual spot at To Kohyli. It was our last full day on Sifnos, and the weather was the best so far, so we planned to make the most of our time at the beach, topping up our tans and cooling off in the amazing, cool water.

For lunch, we all shared two club sandwiches. Dad and I had large beers (what else?!) while Mum and Marion both had Fantas. Later on, we got some ice cream from a nearby shop.

We stayed at the beach until nearly 4 p.m., at which point Marion was looking a bit pink, and I wanted to go back to the hotel to sort through my case and get rid of some unwanted bits ahead of our journey home tomorrow.

Captain’s Bar Cocktails and Passione Italiana

For our last evening on Sifnos, there was no mistaking our plans: happy hour cocktails at Captain’s Bar followed by excellent Italian food at Passione Italiana. I fit in three courses and my share of a litre of house white wine on top of several cocktails. Needless to say, we all slept well!!
