Mini Cyclades 2018

Following the success of my first island-hopping ‘Cyclades Tour‘ in 2017, to say I was eager to repeat the experience would be an understatement!

Once again, I called on the advice and company of my friend Ed, and, just like last year, he could only join me for the first few nights, and I would continue the remainder of the trip alone.

While the itinerary isn’t 100% different from 2017 (given the breadth of possibilities with the sheer number of Greek islands to choose from), it allowed us to include the trip to Delos that we didn’t have time to fit in during our brief previous visit to Mykonos, plus a great hike on Naxos to the summit of Mount Zas, the highest point in the Cyclades.

By flying directly from the UK to Mykonos, we cut out the cost and time of travelling from the mainland, thus allowing us to get Mykonos and Naxos done in the first few days while Ed was with me.

Once Ed had departed, I spent an extra night on Naxos before testing my boundaries by visiting the relatively unknown (not so much now) small island of Koufonissi, where I stayed for three fantastic nights.

Returning to Naxos was a necessity to make the ferry connection, although I could – and probably should – have continued on to somewhere like Paros to avoid more time back on Naxos where I’d already been. But, I like Naxos and didn’t regret returning for the final three nights of the trip.
