Introduction
Kate Apartments is a small, budget-friendly, apartment complex located on the western edge of Kokkari village on the north coast of Samos. I spent four nights here as a solo traveller in May 2026 and really enjoyed it.
Location
I chose Kate Apartments for its combination of affordability and location. Kokkari had been recommended to me as an ideal base for exploring Samos, and while I found a range of availability on Booking.com, many options felt expensive or overkill for my simple needs as a solo traveller.
I had some concerns that being on the far western edge of the village might feel isolated or involve long walks in the evening to get food or drinks, but the nearest cafes and tavernas are only a couple of minutes away and the village centre is a pleasant 10-15 minute stroll. It also has the benefit of being closer to nearby Lemonakia and Tsamadou Beaches, making them an easy walk.
Rooms
My apartment was on the top floor of the building and came with a small balcony offering great views of the beach opposite and down towards the village centre.
The room was well furnished, with an extremely comfortable bed, small kitchenette and modern toilet/shower cubicle.
The only downside was the pitched roof which, as a tall person, meant taking care when walking around the edges of the room to avoid banging my head.
Service
The room was cleaned daily and some small toiletries were provided in the shower, which was a nice touch. I did have a slight issue on arrival as I couldn’t work out how to access the room and nobody was around to let me in. However, I tried calling the number provided by Booking.com and someone turned up a few minutes later so it wasn’t a big deal.
Facilities
The kitchenette included a kettle, lots of utensils, crockery, cutlery and everything else you might need to prepare food. I chose to eat out during my stay, so I only used the kettle to make coffee in the mornings but it was nice to know the equipment was there if I needed it. The air conditioning was a modern unit, quiet and effective. It wasn’t overly hot during my stay in late May, so I only used it for short periods to cool the room a bit.
On first arrival, I had parked in a small parking area just down the road, but once I’d been shown to my room I was told that I could park in a dedicated area behind the apartments which was useful.
Food and Dining
Breakfast wasn’t included as it’s a self-catered apartment, but within a few minutes walk you could find a selection of cafes and shops to get food and drinks. I had good breakfasts at Profile Cafe on a couple of mornings, and once at Wave Cafe Bar down at the waterfront in the village centre.
Price
I paid €61 per night for my 4-night stay in May 2026. This seemed very reasonable but probably in line with expectations given it was early in the season. Overall, I felt it was good value considering the facilities and location.
Conclusion
I had a great time at Kate Apartments. For anyone looking for an affordable self-catering option, I would highly recommend it. Despite looking quite far from the centre of Kokkari, it’s much more convenient than it appears and the walk in and out of town is pleasant.
