Time to go Sailing!

Determined to soak in every possible moment on Milos, I signed up for an all-day boat trip with Milos Oniero, a recommendation I found on a TripAdvisor forum (thanks, Paul!). At €90, it promised a great experience: breakfast, lunch, a sunset BBQ, unlimited drinks, and endless adventure from 08:45 to 18:00—talk about value!

Eager not to miss a second, I was up at 7:30, packing my essentials: camera gear, towels, sun lotion, and on a whim, my drone (though I wasn’t convinced I’d actually use it). By 8, I was ready to roll, so I popped over to Aggeliki Café for a quick coffee—perfectly placed right across from the docked Oniero, where a small crowd was already gathering.

I might’ve had some bread and jam with my coffee…

Setting Sail: The Start of Something Special

Signing in was a breeze, with thoughtful COVID precautions like temperature checks and hand sanitisers in place. The boat, designed for 22 passengers, had just 14 of us on board—a silver lining that turned the trip into an intimate, spacious, and relaxed escape. By 9:00, we had cast off from Adamas Harbor, gliding north along Milos’s dramatic coastline, and my excitement soared.

From the start, I knew this was going to be special. Our skipper, Elias, was the perfect host—informative, warm, and brimming with local knowledge. The pace of the trip was perfectly calibrated: immersive without feeling rushed, giving us plenty of time to enjoy each stop.

Caves, Bays, and Crystal Waters

The morning was spent exploring the island’s striking north and west coasts. One standout was a cave visit: half of us hopped onto a dinghy to explore its fascinating interior, where sunlight streamed through a collapsed roof, while the other half snorkelled in the azure waters. We switched places, ensuring everyone experienced both the magic of the caves and the refreshing swim.

Lunch was an onboard feast—a spread of Greek dishes that tasted even better with the sea breeze and warm sun as our companions.

Heading south, we found ourselves in another breathtaking bay. The routine repeated: dinghy tours, swimming, laughter, and camaraderie. But this time, the afternoon included an extra treat—a small BBQ paired with ouzo! The vibe was laid-back, and the ouzo flowed freely as we soaked in the quieter side of Milos.

Back to Adamas: Full Hearts, Full Stomachs

The day passed in a blissful blur, and before I knew it, we were back at Adamas Harbor by 18:00. I can confidently say this tour was one of the highlights of my trip—a perfect mix of exploration, relaxation, and indulgence.

After disembarking, I joined a lovely couple from the boat for a coffee at Aggeliki, chatting for an hour about swimming (they noticed my skills!), IronMan competitions, Greece, and more. By the time I returned to my room, I was so content—and so full from the day’s feasting—that I skipped dinner altogether.

Lessons Learned (The Hard Way!)

Here’s a pro tip: if you’re travelling solo, be extra vigilant with sunscreen. I discovered, painfully, that my back had taken quite a beating from the sun. The shower that evening was memorable, to say the least!

Armed with after-sun lotion and a creative fix (a damp towel to cool my back while I slept), I managed to soothe the burn and prevent peeling. Next time, I’ll be smarter—but for now, I’ll remember the beauty of Milos far more vividly than the sunburn!

I included a segment on the Oniero boat excursion as part of my YouTube video covering this entire trip, you can watch it below:
