Review Rating: 4/5
Date of visit: July 2021
I spent three nights at the Lydia Hotel in late July 2021. My original travel plans didn’t include a stop on Rhodes, but after some last-minute rescheduling, I decided to pay a visit to the island I’d last set foot on in 1990, over 30 years ago!
With only a few days to spend, I chose to focus my energy on Rhodes Town and wanted to base myself somewhere central, within easy walking distance of both the Old Town and the ancient sites that lie to the west of the capital. Lydia Hotel ticked the location box and proved to be in an excellent spot, with plenty of shops and tavernas close by.
Arriving by ferry, it was a sweaty 30-minute walk from the port with my suitcase in tow, but it was worth the effort to be in such a good area. The price was reasonable at €57 per night, including breakfast, though the food was nothing special and the main reason I’ve only given it 4/5 instead of a full 5* rating. It’s not that breakfast was inedible by any means, but the selection was mediocre and things like the bread could have been fresher and the fruit juice less artificial and sickly-sweet.
The lobby and communal areas have a look of dated grandeur. Honestly, the lighting could be improved and the carpets and walls given a refresh. With this in mind, I was pleasantly surprised that my second-floor room was in good shape, with a modern, spacious bathroom and a large, comfortable bed.
Overall, I’m glad I picked the hotel and would definitely stay again.
