Lydia Hotel, Rhodes Town, Rhodes

Review Rating: 4/5

Date of visit: July 2021

Location

Lydia Hotel is centrally located towards the northern end of Rhodes Town, making it an ideal place to stay for anyone looking to explore the island’s capital. It’s approximately 20-30 minutes from the ferry port, depending on where your boat docks. The closest beach, Elli, is a 10-minute walk northeast and there are shops and tavernas in every direction.

Rooms

My room was surprisingly modern inside given that the general hotel decor was slightly old-fashioned and in need of renovation. The lobby is quite dark and overall the hotel has a feeling of dated grandeur. The room had a spacious bathroom with a large shower, and a big balcony – albeit one that overlooked the buildings behind, so didn’t really offer any scenic views.

Service

The hotel staff were friendly and offered me good advice on places to eat locally. Rooms were cleaned regularly.

Food

Breakfast was included in my room rate, but unfortunately, it was one of the more disappointing aspects of my stay. The selection was reasonable but the quality was nothing special, though I am quite a fussy eater.

Price

I paid €57 per night during peak season which was quite reasonable given its central location.

Conclusion

I spent three nights at the Lydia Hotel in late July 2021. My original travel plans didn’t include a stop on Rhodes, but after some last-minute rescheduling, I decided to pay a visit to the island I’d last set foot on in 1990, over 30 years ago!

With only a few days to spend, I chose to focus my energy on Rhodes Town and wanted to base myself somewhere central, within easy walking distance of both the Old Town and the ancient sites that lie to the west of the capital. Lydia Hotel ticked the location box and proved to be in an excellent spot, with plenty of shops and tavernas close by.

Overall, I’m glad I picked the hotel and would definitely stay again.
